Sneaking in under the radar

Hello, i'm back from a weekend in London and The Professionals book launch. What can i say, it's been a fabulous weekend. There was a drink in this pub and a walk around this park.

before on to the actual book launch. We arrived about 2.15 and i immediately searched out a copy of the new book and then spent a good fifteen minutes asking "please would you sign my book thankyou" unto which one actor asked me "where do you come from " on telling him he said "thank god a northerner". Then it was time to take our seats and the video showing began. There was of course lots of cheering and clapping but i think the most whistles came from the clip of Lewis in his scruffy undercover role with Gary Shail. First on stage was the director David Wickes who spoke about his time directing The Professionals and was then joined by Gary Shail who spoke about the episode he was in and also about his friendship with Lewis which then in turn went to David and Gary talking about Jack The Ripper and lots of little insights into the making of it, for example when JTR was about to be broadcast in America nobody had heard of Lewis so David Wickes who was directing the show asked Lewis to come in for a meeting so they could photograph Lewis and send his photo to the american channel producers and Lew turned up with a black eye , asked how he had got his black eye Lewis replied "she made me walk in to a door" and that was typical Lewis.I also didn't know that in the filming of the episode The Female Factor, Martin and Lewis were not speaking to one another, this coming from Felicity Dean when she was on stage. I also spoke to Diane Keen and i asked her what Lewis was really like to which she replied "in one word LOVELY and a true friend"

Eventually my time came to leave, i had to get back to Euston Station but infront of me on the way out was David Wickes who shook my hand and thanked me for attending and then standing at the front entrance was Gary Shail who shook my hand and told me about his friendship with Lew and what a lovely man he was. Gary visited Lew when he found out how bad Lewis's illness was so i thanked Gary and away i went after a happy time and a day i will never forget.

It was a wonderful weekend and i enjoyed every minute of it (except your London prices *g* a pint of lager and a pint of lager shandy £10.99...WHAT) and i cracked my phone screen by letting my phone fall out of my pocket while in the toilets in Holland Park but apart from that yes it was great.

Thankyou.

I'm gobsmacked by your post (and slightly choked by the end) and so, so pleased you made it to London and extremely grateful to you for telling us all about it! I *loved* hearing the details and can't imagine what it must have felt like for you! Walking on air I suspect? And how lovely to get all those details from the other people involved, they sound as if they were grateful to *you* for going there.

(And just a little titbit... I know that John Williams/John Judd, the actor who played the slightly nutty policeman in Public Interest and who went on to marry Helen Shapiro, also became a very good friend of LC's throughout the 1980's and who also said LC was a lovely bloke.)

Thank you *so* much for this, it's made my day!

it was a wonderful weekend , i enjoyed every minute of it and yesterday was just so good. Everybody had time to talk to you and tell you their stories and it was so nice to hear what they had to say. I must admit to walking away with a tear in my eye when (even though i knew this in the first place) Lewis was always warmly appreciated.

Thankyou.

Oh - you were there! So was I - and a few others (one you were seeing today, I believe). A pity we didn't coordinate better, I've already picked up that I saw one FB person but didn't know it was her *g*

Yes, it was really interesting to hear all the stories. I must write up my thoughts and make a post to the_safehouse.

Thankyou.

Thanks very much for sharing this - it's nice to get a sense of the man from people who were there, you know? And I'm sure you were tickled pink.

I'm really glad you got to go.

(and the part of about "thank god, a northerner" was hilarious, though I am a neutral observer :D)

it was a lovely day with some heart warming stories about the lads, me personally i wanted to hear about the kind of person Lewis was (i already knew ) and to hear how much of a lovely man he was and a friend to so many, that was wonderful. I wasn't sure how to respond to "thank god a northerner" but i only have to speak and you know where i come from .

Thankyou.

Oh how wonderful, to get all that behind the scenes information about the show, and to meet some of those who made it happen!

I'm very intrigued by the launch, as I've been hanging out for the new edition. (I never got around to acquiring the first one).

It was lovely to read about the day and the conversations you had. Thank you for sharing!

it really was a lovely day with lots of lovely stories regards to the lads and it was (for me especially) so nice to hear how lovely a man Lewis was and a friend to so many.

The book i believe will soon be available to buy on Amazon. I have a copy of the original but the new book is larger and more glossy to look at. It also contains a section on The New Professionals.

You are very welcome and thankyou.

Thank you so much for your great feedback on your wonderful weekend! It was so lovely to hear how well loved Lew was by colleagues and friends. I'm so glad you had a fabulous time! If I'd been in London I would have made plans to meet you, but didn't know you'd be there... I was at the Scarsdale a couple of times in the last two years. And of course, Holland Park is one of my favourite parks in London and never fails to put me in a Pros mood when I walk or cycle through it :)
All the best xx
