LEWIS COLLINS

LEWIS COLLINS on BODIE

"I never get the opportunity to show what i'm good at. Being an ex mercenary and under-cover soldier, Bodie should be the one who creeps up and does the dirty work. You don't really see enough expertise in the show. I'm given Bodie, then he's taken away from me, watered - down to some sort of cop instead of an anti-terrorist intelligence agent. We're not hard hitting enough. The show is too bland. The bland leading the bland. People like Bodie actually like killing. No way, i could ever be like him."

He's right, too. I loved the character but he could have been so much more.

i can see both sides of his argument ...yes i love Bodie as he was, the loyal but deasly ci5 agent but i would have liked to have seen his background brought to the front just a little bit more so that we got to see how his soldiering skills made him the ci5 agent that i love so much.

Hmm interesting, though I'm not sure if I could have coped with Bodie being more Bodie ;) What is the timeframe for this quote?

i can see both sides of his argument ...i love Bodie how Lewis played him but i would have liked a bit more of his background to be brought out on display also.

I think the interview was set as the second series was getting under way .

Mmm... I'm not sure I agree with Lew here. I think Pros set a reasonable balance between realistic violence/mayhem/get-the-job-done in an anti-terrorist scenario without descending into a territory that would be unsuitable for prime time viewing. What Lew is probably describing is a character that could only feature in an R-rated TV show and could not have enjoyed the popularity it did. I think a character like the Bodie he's describing would have been more suitable to a film rather than a long running TV series. Plus, it would have been out of place in a series where its creator Brian Clemens forbade the use of swearwords and gratuitous violence, blood, gore etc.

i can honestly see both sides of his argument . Yes i adore his role of Bodie and how Lewis played him but i would also liked to have seen just a bit more of his background being brought into his character so that we got to see his skills that made him the ci5 agent that was Bodie.

It is interesting, especially with Lewis' military involvement. Maybe LC looked into the abyss himself a bit during his time with the TA's etc.

Yes i can see both sides of his argument . Perhaps he felt that his military skills were not on show enough but then i also love the Bodie that we saw him play so fantastically well in the show .

I had to go away and think about this one.

I'd agree that it would have been nice to see just a little more character depth, for Bodie, written into the episodes, but I feel that Lew 'fleshed out' Bodie in a way that gave us so much more than the lines of the script, anyway.

I also agree with freetraveller, that too much overt examination of Bodie's workings may have thrown aspects of the partnership and the series off balance.

I can see both sides of Lewis's argument . Yes i love how he played the loyal but deadly ci5 agent but i would also liked to have seen a bit more of those skills that made him the Bodie that i so much adore.

Really interesting quote! I agree with others here that LC brought so much to the character of Bodie, anyway. To us, it's hardly *bland*. But I can see his point - there could have be a harder edge, despite the censorship, and perhaps even more relevant is what he says about the skills that could have been brought into play. It would have then given a bit more of a contrast between the two agents. Interesting to speculate. Or even write about! ;)

i also can see both sides of what he's saying . Yes i love Bodie and all that Lewis Collins brought to the character but i would also loved to have seen him use his military skills a little bit more but one thing he wasn't was bland ...no no no *g*
