Fantastic :0)
I've never seen Jack the Ripper, which is odd, since I like both Mr Caine and (obviously) Mr Collins.

However, at Christmas, I stumbled across an entry on IMDB which said Barry Foster was originally in the frame for the part of Inspector Frederick Abberline before it went to Michael Caine (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0287687/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm) which I thought was interesting, since I loved Van Der Valk.

Apparently Brian Capron was his sergeant before the Americans stepped in and wanted bigger names, recognisable in the States (according to Wiki).

I expect everyone else knows this, but it was news to me - I know so very little... :0)

Re: Fantastic :0)
firstly thankyou so much for looking at this and glad you like it . Seriously you must obtain a copy if you get the chance , it's a must for all those luschious lewis moments . I can watch michael caine but like sean connery he is one of those actors who cannot change his accent , i watched him in the film "The Eagle Has Landed"over the christmas period and i've never known a German officer to talk with a cockney accent . Thirdly who is Barry Foster ..never heard of him obviously not as big as Michael Caine and definatley Lewis was the right choice for George Godley.

Re: Fantastic :0)
Barry Foster is probably most famous for Van der Valk (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_der_Valk_(TV_series)), although he was in loads of other stuff.

The theme tune for the series was iconic (https://www.google.co.uk/#q=van+der+valk+theme)
