film review ...a must see

I just have to give a thumbs up to this film .I watched HACKSAW RIDGE yesterday. Gruesome most definitely and yes i do like my war films but this was as realistic as you can imagine . Brilliant story, brilliant effects with limbs being torn apart and guts being spread all over the place but a true story that deserves to be told and well done that man for never giving in to his beliefs and quite litterally being branded a coward when he showed the most courage in the face of what must have been an horrendous and most frightening experience. A must see film even if you don't like war films.

My daughter and her boyfriend saw it last week and were raving about it all weekend. Definitely a 'must see', I reckon!

I would highly recommend it. The effects are incredible and the story is not just about the war. I enjoyed it and would definitely watch it again.

Thank you! I'd heard it was good, but not from anyone whose opinion I know... it's going on my list.

it really is worth watching and if you get the chance to see it then i would highly recommend it . I would love to see it again and the effects are amazing but that only covers a small part of the film (well a big part as far as effects go ). The story is one of courage and he deserved his bravery medal.

My son saw it this weekend and also raved about it! He said it was the most violent film he's ever seen (which blimey really is saying something!) but also brilliantly made. For me, although I guess I shouldn't be so closed-minded, anything attached to Mel Gibson tends to put me off. I hear Andrew Garfield is brilliant in it though.

It is gruesome in parts especially on the battle field or ridge should I say but don't be put off by Mel Gibson directing it . I really enjoyed it and yes Andrew Garfield played his part superbly .

Thank you so much for the review. I'll definitely look out for this movie. I'm in Italy right now (I spend about half a year in Italy and half in the UK) and I think I saw it advertised on TV in one of these film preview programmes. From some of the clips shown it looked pretty violent, but if a film is well made I'm not usually put off by excessive violence, as long as it has significance for the story that is being told and it helps advance the plot, in other words it is not gratuitous and mindless. Like others have said, I'm not one of Mel Gibson's biggest fans; I couldn't disagree more with him on political opinions and social attitudes, and some of his off screen behaviour in the past few years hasn't impressed me at all, to say the least! But I'll try to be open-minded and give him the benefit of the doubt, as regards his creative achievements... Thank you for the recommendation!

I really enjoyed this movie and please don't let the thought of Mel Gibson directing it put you off. It really is a brilliant fim and though the action is indeed very gruesome to watch and the effects are amazing , the story is there to be told and he deserved his bravery medal for the courage that he showed.

Enjoy your half a years stay in Italy .

I really enjoyed this film . The story was one of courage and the battle scenes were so realistic with stunning effects but if blood and guts isn't your thing then it would probably be too gory for you because those scenes really are as brutal as you can imagination . I love war films but i also love my horror movies .I keep wanting to go on a ghost hunt ..though what i would do if i ever saw one ..probably run a mile *g*

I'm not a big Mel fan either, but it does sound like he's done a good job of telling the story here.
